Unfortunately, that isn’t something I’ve seen in my local stores yet, only online. I will ask around, though. It really looks like a nice coat, it’s a very good length and the band at the back is a generally flattering detail.

The Item:
This is the J.Crew Classic Union suit. I’m dying to get my hands on one because I love footed pajamas and union suits for cold weather.
The Story:
Last night I got a call from my younger sister at 11:30. She was supposed to be sleeping at a friend’s house but was having a bad time with her allergies because they have a St. Bernard. Her car is at the garage getting snow tires put on, my father had dropped her off earlier in the day. She begged me to come pick her up and bring her back to my parent’s house, because they were already sleeping. Being the kind-hearted person I am, I agreed. I drove the 30 minutes to her friends house, dropped her off at home, and then drove back to my house, and crawled back into bed.
The Twist:
Ever since I was a little girl, my mother would never let me run out of the house in my pajamas. Even if I was just ten years old, going for a ride to pick up ice cream, or 17 in sweatpants running to the gas station. I was always told to go put on jeans, at least.
I don’t live at home anymore, and nobody would have been the wiser, but the lesson has stuck with me. After all, what if I happened to run into someone I knew, or met my soulmate? I would have been mortified to be found out in red fleece footed pajamas with santa claus on them.
The Tip:
For nights like last night, or those mornings where you are running two hours behind and nothing is falling into place, this union suit could be a lifesaver. It’s made of fairly thin material, with a hint of stretch. Toss on a mini skirt and a cardigan, and it just looks like you’re wearing leggings and a shirt that happen to match perfectly. You could even throw on a pair of boyfriend jeans, or just a flowy tunic-length top.

“Superfine Alpaca Cowl-Neck Cardigan”
I don’t see a lot of men wearing cardigans, and I want to. Pullovers don’t have the same vibe. Somehow a cardigan can look more casual than a pullover while looking more put-together at the same time. This soft cardigan would really round out a lot of mens’ closets.

“Fine Wool Hooded Henley”
This soft henley is great for what’s left of autumn, all the way through to the middle of spring. It’s heavy enough to keep you warm before the snow sets in, but not so heavy that you’ll have to pack it into storage at the first sign of Impatiens and rainclouds come spring.

“Vintage Fleece Henley Sweatshirt”
How comfortable does this look? I have the feeling this will somehow migrate from plenty of mens’ closets to the closets of their girlfriends and wives, because it is a great unisex piece. For gents, pair this with an undershirt, tuck everything into a pair of vintage-washed jeans, top off with a thick black leather belt, and some boots. For ladies, throw this over a cute printed knit tee, some super skinny jeans and flats. you’ll look great for class or running errands - with little to no effort!

“Jersey Union Suit”
I know what you’re thinking. I’m not crazy - I swear. If you follow me on twitter you might have seen me tweet a link to the classic union suit which pretty much the same as this, but it’s for ladies. I’m a big fan of union suits. And footed pajamas. I love them. I have footie pajamas with santa claus on them and I’m already wearing them around the house.

“Jersey Union Suit”
If you follow me on twitter, you might remember that I posted a link to the women’s union suit a few weeks ago. I love union suits, and footed pajamas. There isn’t much to say - they’re comfortable, perfect for lounging and for sleeping, warm, and they are whimsical and fun.
When more of the new menswear items become available online, and after I’ve had the chance to experience more of it in person I will either add more items to this post, or do a follow-up with additional items.
“Dulphine shimmer bling-button cardigan”
Well, hello gorgeous! Dulphine is softer than soft, there’s no ‘itch’ factor, and this sweater has those same great delicate shimmers that J.Crew has been threading all season.
This little cardi has serious layering potential, and could work all year. Just think - it’s perfect for the holidays, would look great over pastels and florals this spring, and would be just the thing to cover your shoulders on breezy summer nights.
”Chunky Fair Isle funnelneck sweater”
This sweater is amazing. It’s plush to touch, but has a great ‘crisp’ look that is hard to get with chunky sweaters. The funnelneck is adorable - and very flattering. The Fair Isle pattern is a personal favourite, especially for the holidays. One thing I especially love about this sweater is the ribbing on the bottom of the sleeves. It drives me nuts when a sweater has loose cuffs (unless there’s some flowyness happening, then I’m all for it) because I have the bad habit of pushing my sleeves up to my elbows, and these ribbed cuffs will help keep them up there.
“Haya Sequin Pullover”
I like this because it walks the line between sweater, sweatshirt, and thermal tee. It’s comfy cozy, but it isn’t bulky, it’s not going to make you uncomfortably warm if the heat is cranked up too high, but it’ll keep you warm against the wind. It works under a blazer or a jacket, and over a button down, tank, or tee! The sequins just add a girly touch to a must-have layering piece and a this would be a great staple for winter. So cute with jeans, cords, slacks, and skirts!
“Tartan Boy Shirt”
My thoughts on this shirt are quite simple. I really only have one though, and it is: Duh, of course!
This shirt is so simple, it’s the kind of thing that could easily be overlooked as “A plaid shirt. At the holidays. No, really, a plaid shirt at the holidays? Haven’t I seen 4,500,000 of these?” Yes. You probably have. But that’s just it. A plaid cotton shirt at the holidays is like jean shorts in summer - an no brainer. And the colours on this one are really nice, and the slim fit helps to banish any boxiness. Plus, since it isn’t flannel, you won’t overheat with it under a blazer or a sweater! This paired with J.Crew’s classic cableknit sweater is a match made in snowy, snowy heaven!
“Drapey Sequin Tee”
Now, I’ll be the first to admit - I love sparkles.. So, I might be a tad biased about all these shimmer/sequin/sparkle shirts J.Crew is putting out. But that’s fine, because I’m okay with it. This shirt, unlike the tartan, isn’t so much of a no-brainer. This shirt might seem like a special occasion shirt, but it’s really more versitale than you might think. Yes, it’s perfect for a semi-casual cocktail party, a romantic date night, or a holiday party. But, under a blazer with some suiting pants? A fantastic look for work, especially paired with some demure heels and understated makeup.
“Dazzling Deer Art Tee”
This shirt is simply precious. It does have a little bit of a ‘crewcuts’ vibe, but I think under a cardigan, with some dark jeans, comfy shoes and a scarf, this would be a great shirt to wear to class, or out with friends. It’s just cute! And, of course, it’s sparkly.
“Cropped Plaid Tuxedo Pant”
Oh my, what do we have here? Am I having a flashback to my rebellious teen years where I thought punk rock never died and too much black eyeliner was cute? No? Good. What we do have is a fun alternative to boring ol’ jeans or slacks made special for the holidays and maybe a few cool days. Paired with a cream cardi/tank combo and black ballet flats, this is perfect for the holidays and a fun outfit for the winter. Plus, these would look fab tucked into some tall black rainboots come springtime!
“Skinny ultra-lounge pant”
I LOVE THESE. Seriously, I’m about to climb a mountain with a megaphone. Remember those super soft lounge pants I was talking about in my last post? Yeah, these are them. They are amazing. Buy them. Honest to gosh and golly I have never felt softer lounge pants. Everybody loves the feeling of brand new sweatpants, when the fleece is still plush and cozy, but then after a few washes they just feel like… yuck. These will never do that. They will stay soft and cozy forever. I just know I’m going to end buying five pairs at least before the holidays. I know my two best girlfriends would go gaga for them, my sister would kill me if I didn’t get her a pair, and I’ll need two pairs, of course.
I’ll be back soon with my menswear picks!
Just as I suspected, J.Crew stores are chock full of new clothes and accessories today!!
We’ve got some Fair Isle henley sweaters - huge and cozy, and some of the softest lounge pants I’ve ever felt. The shearling slippers came to stores, along with sherpa-lined winter caps, with matching scarves!
And, I called it, SO MANY SEQUINS AND SPARKLES. There’s a gorgeous, very soft, little cardigan with a wide gauged knit and lovely little glitters. I also spotted a few more of those great sequined tanks, a light crewneck sweatshirt with a really nice sequined front.
Two standout women’s items are a gorgeous black lace bell skirt and a lovely dark plaid cotton button down.
For menswear, there is one stand-out item. It is, seriously, the softest shirt I have ever felt. It’s a heavyweight button down that comes in red, black, and dark purple. More details to follow.
Unfortunately, none of the new items are online yet, so further details are unavailable just at this moment.
Keep an eye out for loads of brand new items in J.Crew stores this Wednesday. It’s holiday season rollout, and I’m betting on pajamas, fuzzy sweaters, and lots of winter accessories.
Stay tuned for updates!
